1 Overview and Objectives

The Shain Library Internship provides current library school students with hands-on experience in various areas of academic librarianship. Interns are supervised by the Research Support team and work with library staff to conduct a specific project such as designing and delivering a workshop session, creating topical research guides, or digitizing archival material and primary sources.

Objectives

  • To explore and experiment with rich and innovative digital tools, methods and environments that will be useful in future work and improve competitiveness in the academic marketplace.
  • To create an opportunity for graduate students to develop useful skills and practices to be shared with library staff and the greater academic community.
  • To engage students with the everyday professional practices of librarians in reference and digitization services  and provide experience with the operations of academic libraries, especially as they contribute to the educational goals of universities and impact teaching, learning, and research.
